Being exposed to violence as a child could translate to molecular-level damage in the cells
Domestic violence was assessed with the Conflict Tactics Scale,48 inquiring about 12 acts of physical violence (for example, kicking a partner, threatening a partner with a knife). The physical violence acts reported at three ages were summed and children who grew up in families who scored in the top 10% of the distribution of partner violence were coded as exposed to domestic violence. Of the children studied here, 17.0% (N=40) were exposed to domestic violence.
Bullying victimization was assessed by explaining to mothers that ‘someone is being bullied when another child (1) says mean and hurtful things, makes fun, or calls a person mean and hurtful names; (2) completely ignores or excludes someone from their group of friends or leaves them out of things on purpose; (3) hits, kicks, or shoves a person, or locks them in a room; (4) tells lies or spreads rumors about them; or (5) does other hurtful things like these. We call it bullying when these things happen often and it is difficult for the person being bullied to stop it happening. We do not call it bullying when it is done in a friendly or playful way.’ Narratives recorded by interviewers were later checked by an independent rater to verify that the events described were instances of bullying, operationally defined as evidence of repeated harmful actions between children where there was a power differential between the bully and the victim.43, 44 Of the children studied here, 24.2% (N=57) were frequently bullied.
Physical maltreatment by an adult was assessed using a standardized clinical interview protocol49 designed to enhance mothers’ comfort with reporting valid child maltreatment information, while also meeting researchers’ responsibilities for referral under the UK Children Act. No family has left the study following intervention. When mothers reported any maltreatment, interviewers followed with standardized probes (for example, accidental harm was ruled out, and sexual abuse was queried directly and was included in the measure). Over the years of data collection, the study maintained a cumulative dossier for each child, comprising recorded debriefings with interviewers who had coded any indication of maltreatment at any of the three successive home visits, recorded narratives of the three successive caregiver interviews and information from clinicians whenever the study made a referral. Based on review of each child's cumulative dossier, two clinical psychologists (TEM and the project coordinator) reached consensus for whether physical maltreatment had occurred. Examples of maltreatment in E-risk children included: the mother smacked the child weekly leaving marks or bruises; child was repeatedly beaten by a young adult step-sibling; child was routinely smacked by father when drunk ‘just to humiliate him’; child was fondled sexually and often slapped by the mothers’ boyfriend. Many, but not all cases identified in the course of our research were under investigation by police or social services, already on the child-protection register, or in foster care at follow-up, having been removed from their parents because of abuse. Of the children studied here, 26.7% (N=63) were maltreated by an adult.

Типичное мнение, кстати. Люди просто нихуя в американской жизни ж не понимают. Не понимают, сколько приносит зассаная бакалея. Не представляют себе, что hot dog cart на манхаттане приносит больше ста тыщь в год, а купить его (в смысле место) - ещё больше стоит. ТЕ вот все эти зассаные "таджики" - они живут намного зажиточнее всяких там "образованных". Ну и капитала, для старта, у них нехуёво так имеется.

все бабы дуры
мужики на огромных jacked up trucks как правило паркуются гораздо лучше (причём на парковочных местах специально помеченных как compact only), чем женщины на "маленьких" машинах
причём чем большим "вонючим колхозником" выглядит водитель пикапа, тем лучше он его водит, в том числе в смысле гуманности по отношению к другим водителям
а на раёне же нету ничего хуже старой бабки (семдесят+) на старом роллсе, - пиздец всему живому

[Link] | Любопытно, что азиатская бытовая культура в Америке и известна, и приживается - народ приучили и палочками есть, и платить огромные деньжищи (по сравнению с ценами на котлеты) за сырую рыбу, и выучить что такое ниньзя и чайная церемония, кимоно и гейша, fried rice & egg roll, - в то время как "культурная" культура Азии в Америке и неизвестна и не нужна и не прижилась.
А с русской культурой ровно наоборот - ничего бытового русского в Америке не прижилось, да почти и неизвестно (кроме медведей и водки), а "культурная" культура и известна и прижилась, и стала частью жизни образованного американца. Правда, русская литература для американца резко отличается от литературы французской и тп. Если литература европейская для американца - литература о таких же, в принципе, как он, Белых Людях, то литература русская о русских для американца - литература о ебанатах и папуасах с затерянных в тундре островов. А вот русские музыка и картинки уже вполне себе творчество Белых Людей.

обычно в америке дешевле всего в кабаках нажираться пивом, в нью йoрке же зачастую самый дешёвый вариант - вино, причём дешёвое вино не обязательно говёное, а house вино нередко неплохое
причём in most of 'Murica выпить обычно не зверски дорого, по сравнению с пожрать, в нью йoрке же выпить стоит ого-го, а пожрать почти ничего

[Link] | На троих взрослых, один из которых сильно пьющий, но ногтями держится за рамки приличий, в день на жратву и бухло выходит от трёхсот до шестисот. Триста , понятно, вышло, когда пить совсем не вышло.
Самое крупное неудобство в нью ёрке - перемещение в пространстве. На такси ездить невозможно совершенно, так как поймать приличный автомобиль затруднительно, а в краунвиках кондиционер сзади практически не кондиционерит, а совмещать такси и сауну мне не нравится. Ездить на метро в плане вентиляции несколько гуманнее, но заёбывает возня с коляской. И если расписание довольно насыщенное, то расходы на транспорт достигают весьма огорчающие суммы.
Выпить, кстати, чтобы интересно и не очень разорительно, в манхаттане стало довольно проблематично, особенно по сравнению с вильямсбургом.

A New York story
Me, myself and I went for a night cap around midnight on Sunday to a bar about a block away from our hotel.
I found myself sitting at a bar between two people. On my left was a chef from Maryland, in town for Fleet Week. He was showing me his battle hardened scarred hands to prove that he was a real G and not just a "kitchen CEO" as I so insultingly claimed. On my right was an attractive tall blonde in her late twenties, who earlier in the day attended her girlfriend's wedding in Long Island. It was evident from her face that she cried prior to getting to the bar, perhaps things didn't exactly work out the way she had hoped. She wanted to get laid and since pickings were slim, she wanted to fuck me. The chef was gay, didn't find any sea men, and, limited in options, also wanted to fuck me. And they did not want to fuck each other. But I wasn't available. So we all went our separate ways. The girl went home to sob in her pillow, the chef continued his quest looking for men in white uniform, and I went back to the hotel to my wife, who I could not fuck either, since she didn't want to do it with our nanny sleeping in adjacent room of the suite.
